Planet Chemical was founded in 2005 in Cairo, Egypt, established to provide trading specific chemicals and technical solutions in drilling fluid systems and specialty chemicals. We serve industries primarily in Egypt and the Middle East, with expanded operations in other international areas.

We market a complete line of premium quality drilling fluid additives, either manufactured to our specifications or purchased from leading manufacturers of drilling fluids in the industry. By specializing in drilling fluids chemistry and specifying proper solids control equipment, we design economical and efficient drilling fluid systems that fulfil the specific requirements of our clients.

Lost Circulation Materials

Bridge, seal and cure losses

Cellulose Fiber

One sack

Micronized cellulose fibre designed to seal borehole wall in porous and permeable formations. A wide range of graded fibrous particles creates a bridging action at the well bore and a matting effect within the wall cake, with minimal effect on rheology. Thermally stable, biodegradable and non-toxic.

Application

Combats lost circulation in water base drilling fluids; can be added for seepage control while drilling without passing the shale shakers (70% passes 140 mesh) or spotted over a thief zone.

Nutplug

Granular

Selected nut shells ground to granular form in specific size ranges — fine (F), medium (M) and coarse (C). Compatible with water and oil base drilling fluids.

Application

Controls lost circulation in water and oil base drilling fluids. May be used by itself in re-circulated fluid or in pill form with fibrous and flake material.

MICA

MICA

Flake

Inert flake material available in fine (F), medium (M) and coarse (C) grades, with no negative effect on drilling fluid properties. Fine grade circulates through a 20 mesh screen.

Application

Combats lost circulation by treating the entire system, or in loss circulation pills, in water and oil base drilling fluids.

QuickSeal

Blend

A proportioned mixture of granular, flake and fibrous loss circulation materials, formulated so the three mechanisms ensure maximum effectiveness. Available in fine (F), medium (M) and coarse (C).

Application

A one sack product used in water-base drilling fluids to prevent and cure lost circulation.

Weighting Agents

BARITE (API)

BARITE (API)

API 13A

Barium sulphate weighting agent meeting API Specification 13A:2004 / ISO 13500:1998 Section 7. Chemically inert to all drilling fluid additives; ground so that a minimum of 97% passes a 200 mesh screen, specific gravity 3.8–4.2.

Application

A cost effective means of increasing and maintaining drilling fluid density — used to weight mud systems up to 21.0 ppg (SG 2.52).

Packaging

25 kg multiwall paper sacks or 1.5 MT big bags.

MARBLE

Acid soluble

Metamorphic calcium carbonate used as a non-damaging weighting agent for reservoir drilling and as a bridging and sealing agent. Soluble in 15% HCl. Available in three grades: F (1–50 microns), M (50–150 microns), C (150–192 microns).

Application

Increases density of treated fluids up to 14.16 lb/gal (1.68 kg/l); M and C grades prevent fluid movement to permeable formations. May be used in fresh water, sea water, produced brines and calcium chloride brine.

CALCIUM CARBONATE

Acid soluble

Planet Chemical Calcium Carbonate is an acid-soluble mineral used in oil and gas drilling fluids as a bridging, fluid-loss control, and weighting agent. It helps increase mud density, control seepage, and improve wellbore cleanup. Available in Coarse, Medium, Fine and Ultra Fine grades.

Application

Suitable for both water-based and oil-based drilling fluid systems.

LUBE 100

Vegetable base

Modified vegetable oil utilized as a lubricant in water base drilling fluids. Non-toxic, non-polluting and with no adverse effect on the rheological properties of the fluid — considerably more effective than diesel or crude oil as a lubricant.

Application

An effective lubricant for all water base muds; reduces torque and drag in high angle holes and minimizes the chance of differential sticking of the drill string.

Packaging

55 USG (208 litre) steel drums containing 190 kg net.

LUBE 50 RS

Vegetable base

A vegetable oil based product utilized as a lubricant in water base drilling fluids, with no adverse effect on the rheological properties of the fluid.

Application

An effective lubricant for all water base muds; reduces torque and drag in high angle holes and minimizes chances of differential sticking of the drill string.

BENTONITE (API)

BENTONITE (API)

API 13A

Sodium montmorillonite meeting API Specification 13A, Section 4.

Application

Provides base viscosity and filtration control in water base drilling fluids.

BIOCIDE PC

Biodegradable

A biodegradable triazine based product utilized as a bactericide in drilling, completion, work-over and packer fluids.

Application

Controls bacteria and protects polymers, which are susceptible to bacterial degradation.

Packaging

25 litre or 55 USG (208 litre) HDPE drums containing 240 kg net.

SODIUM BICARBONATE

NaHCO₃

Utilized to precipitate soluble calcium in water base drilling fluids. Performs two basic functions: removes soluble calcium and lowers the pH of the drilling mud.

Application

Primarily for treating cement contaminated drilling fluids — mixed through the mud hopper. Do not use to treat make-up water; use soda ash for softening water.

Packaging

25 kg or 50 kg multiwall paper and PE sacks.

SODIUM CHLORIDE (PVD)

Salt

Commonly referred to as SALT (PVD). Restricts shale hydration and dispersion, and is used in drilling fluids and brine form as a completion or workover fluid to a maximum density of 10 lb/gal (1.20 SG).

Application

Water base drilling and completion fluids, and the water phase of invert emulsion drilling fluids.

Packaging

25 kg and 50 kg polyethylene or linear multiwall paper sacks; also available in 1 MT jumbo bags.

SODIUM SILICATE

Shale inhibitor

A concentrated solution of sodium silicate in water used for wellbore stabilization in water based drilling fluids. Forms a gel by reacting with formation waters and prevents pore pressure transmission; effective at temperatures up to 275°F (135°C).

Application

Improves the chemical inhibition of reactive shale from fresh water to salt saturated fluids; synergistic viscosity control when used with a salt — potassium chloride is advisable with sodium silicate.

Packaging

300 kg net HDPE drums.

CITRIC ACID

Cement treatment

Used for treating cement contamination in water based drilling fluids. Controls contamination effectively without a detrimental effect on the polymeric materials in the system.

Application

Mixed through the chemical barrel or rig hopper.

Packaging

25 kg high density polyethylene sacks, or multiwall paper sacks with a polyethylene layer.

Clarification and bio-remediation

FERRIC CHLORIDE

Coagulant

An effective particle coagulant, useful to collect fine particles for water clarification. A concentration of 40% is commonly used.

Application

Water clarification duty in industrial and produced water treatment.

Packaging

HDPE packing (product is corrosive).

BIOCIDS

Bio-remediation

A synergistic blend of all natural microorganisms specially designed to accelerate the ability of heavy, tarry types of hydrocarbons such as oil, coal tars and organic sludges to biodegrade. Naturally occurring, non-engineered, non-pathogenic and non-toxic; non-caustic and non-acidic.

Application

Recommended for bio-remediation of hydrocarbon industrial waste contamination at petroleum, natural gas refining and petrochemical facilities. Digests petroleum spills in both soil and water, converting contaminants to carbon dioxide and water, with minimal site disruption and no offsite disposal liability.
